CUBALLING’S Sara Ballard (40), who along with husband, Leigh, runs seed, stock feed and bulk soil businesses at Narrogin, completed her second Rottnest Channel swim last Saturday.
This year she completed the swim as part of a duo with Narrogin social worker, Alison Braid.

“Swimming is the only sport that is a life skill,” she said. “I’ve always thought that was important.
Rowe, 20, of Waverton, has barely been out of the water since she started swimming as a child in Bristol, England.

Mike Humphreys swam the 20-mile circumference of Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada becoming the fourth person to circumnavigate the ruggedly beautiful island in 63-66°F waters.
Bowen Island is in Howe Sound near Vancouver, Canada. A popular destination, Bowen Island offers stunning vistas for a small number of inhabitants.

2010 Global Open Water Swimming Symposium & Conference

The 2010 Global Open Water Swimming Symposium and Conference will kick-off the traditional summer open water swimming season this year. The first-time Conference will be held at the Long Beach Marriott in Southern California on June 5th in collaboration with the USA Swimming National Open Water Championships.

MENTONE Girls Grammar student Jessica Silvester was the first woman over the line at the recent 2010 Bloody Big Swim.
The Year 12 girl, a member of the Mordialloc Life Saving Club, completed the 11.2km open water swim from Frankston Life Saving Club to Mills Beach in Mornington in a time of 2:28:37.
The Bloody Big Swim is an annual event conducted by the Australian Marathon Swimming Association. It began in 2004 and has grown considerably.

Three swimmers have the explicit goal to complete the unprecedented Ocean's Seven - 7 individual crossings of the Irish Channel, Cook Strait, Molokai Channel, English Channel, Catalina Channel, Tsugaru Channel, and Strait of Gibraltar:
Australian James Pittar, American Mallory Mead and American Jamie Patrick.
The trio are making their own individual plans to become the first person to complete this incredibly tough series of marathon swims, probably completed sometime between 2011 - 2014.

FORMER Olympic Games swimmer Deane Pieters avenged last year's devastating loss to claim line honours in the annual Rottnest Channel Swim.
The Trigg swimmer fought off a strong charge from Tim Hewitt to claim his first victory in the event at just his second attempt.
Pieters, who crossed the Thompsons Bay finish line in 4hours, 41min, 35secs said he was “over the moon” to win the iconic 19.7km event.
Melissa Gorman And Rhy Mainstone On Top Down Under

World champion Melissa Gorman had a bit of deja vu in winning her third straight 10K title at at 2010 Australian Open Water Championships.
Like her very last stroke to snatch victory from the Olympic gold medalist Larisa Ilchenko at the 2009 World Championships, Melissa just out-touched Danielle DeFrancesco to win in 2:03:17.
Channel swim Main’s attraction

PORT Elizabeth swimming sensation Kyle Main has his heart set on swimming across the English Channel and in the famous Manhattan Island Challenge.
Main, who will attempt a 35km swim in the Bushmans River tomorrow, is preparing to tackle a 36km solo swim of the gruelling English Channel in September, as well as the much tougher swim in the US next year.
The well-known Bay swimming coach and Ironman competitor already has a number of impressive solo swims under his belt.

However, for Danish Grith Sigsgaard it was her dream to swim the 88 km between Hernandarias and Parana in Argentina. And her goal was to swim under 10 hours and 15 min.
